Despite the huge upscale tourist industry associated with Mykonos, there are many customs and traditions preserved by the islanders.
Treat yourself and explore Ano Mera, Mykonos during the festivals in honor of the Virgin Mary from August 15 to 23rd. You must visit the famous Panagia Tourliani Monastery and have a meal at one of the many traditional tavernas in the large village square.
You also have the wonderful opportunity to enjoy many of the traditional folk art and sweets of the Mykonian people. Look for the Ano Mera Bazzar In the central plaza. You will find their work displayed with great pride and respect for their ancestors, Take your time as you gaze over the many tables full of treasures. There is so much to see and choose from.
On display and for sale are hand-woven items made on a loom, homemade sweets, olive oil, jewelry, embroideries, wooden windmills, painted bottles, handbags, Ecclesiastical art, and so much more.
The Annual Bazaar at Ano Mera takes place between August 15th & 23rd.
